Ringing and Covid-19 update

In response to enquires regarding the ringing of the bells at St Paul’s tower, all ringing has had to be stopped during the current COVID-19 restrictions.
At the moment this is because of the blanket ban on households meeting indoors, but as things ease, we will still have to be extremely careful about when and how we can resume ringing. The ringing chamber is not large and ventilation is only through one small window and it is vital that we do all we can to prevent the spread of the virus.
There have also been questions about the clock chimes. Unfortunately, during the cold weather in January, the chimes were not synchronised correctly. To correct the problem two people need to work on the mechanism. This also is something that we cannot do in the current lockdown.
